Varsity

Each year Oxford paddlers compete against Cambridge in four events: White Water Racing, Canoe Polo, Freestyle and Marathon. This page contains results from these events.


White Water Racing 

White Water Racing consists paddling down a stretch of moving in water in as little time as possible. Both Oxford and Cambridge enter the BUCS WWR event and times from this event are compared to determine the Varsity victor.

Canoe PoloCanoe Polo is not unlike basketball, but played in kayaks. Two teams, each with five players each on the pitch at any one time, compete to score goals in nets suspended about about 2 metres above the water. The Varsity matches take place either in Oxford or Cambridge.

FreestyleKayak Freestyle involves pulling as many tricks in a kayak as possible whilst surfing on a river wave. Points are awarded for the length of the run, the technical difficulty of the moves attempted and the variety of the moves completed. The Varsity event tends to take place either at Hurley Weir or at at the HPP artificial white water course in Nottingham.

MarathonMarathon kayaking in the Varsity raceMarathon paddling takes place in specialist boats designed for flat water speed.
